On Wednesday evening, the House of Representatives passed Rep. Maxine Waters’ bill, (H.R. 4573)- the Debt Relief for Earthquake Recovery in Haiti Act. It passed under what is known as ‘a suspended rule’ meaning that it is not considered controversial, so the vast majority of the House Members voted for it. This legislation directs the Secretary of the U.S. Treasury to seek the cancellation of Haiti’s $1.2 billion debts to the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and other multilateral development institutions.

Red Cross has issued a stern warning, according to the Associated Press, that approximately 2.17 million Zimbabweans are in need of food aid, fueling fears that the country is on the brink of a food crisis.
AP:

“In some parts of the country, the food situation is as bad as many of our volunteers and staff have ever seen it,” said Emma Kundishora, secretary general of the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society.

This Sunday, MTV will air the documentary “Summit on the Summit: Kilimanjaro” which features Elizabeth Gore, Jessica Biel, Lupe Fiasco, and others climbing the mountain to raise awareness for the global water crisis.
